New Data of the 1755 Earthquake and Tsunami in Lisbon, Portugal

In spite of the significant number studies focused on 1755 earthquake and tsunami, there are still many unknowns regarding this event in Lisbon, Portugal. Thus, research authors compiled historical documents, including some that had never been analyzed, complemented with a field survey tsunami numerical modeling at civil parish Santo Estevão, Lisbon. It was possible to identify 13 buildings, three religious buildings five palaces. Furthermore, new data showed contradicting general idea, caused damage selected territory because households decreased by 52%. The residents about 51%, 1756, 1041 were living 297 temporary shelters. There more than 44 dead 1122 unaccounted for. fire did not hit area, model results validated accounts cartography, which indicate coastal area studied significantly inundated tsunami. consultation documents analyzed contemporary researchers provides breakthrough knowledge since it allowed very detailed analysis disaster impact.
